Building Schools for Burma is a non-political, non-profit making, registered charity (Charity Number 1131437) that has been started to provide educational facilities for some of the poorest children in Burma. A country riddled with poverty, corruption and that has one of the worst human rights records on earth.

We believe that an education can give people hope, something that many Burmese people have very little of, it is for this reason that the charity has been set up.

In order to go to a Government run school in Burma, you must pay for items such as a uniform, books and pencils. However, for many, this is simply not affordable. The only other option for an education would be to go to a monastic school run by monks, who provide a very basic schooling for free. It is these monastic schools, that help the very poor, that we at the charity have decided to help.

Our first project is in the town of Nyaung-U, which is in the Mandalay Division of central Burma. The town is small and relies heavily on the limited tourism that exists at nearby Bagan. Most people are agricultural workers and live off US$1 per day.
