Nyaung-U
is a town that we have visited on each of our trips to the country.
We have built up relations with local people there and for this
reason, this is where the first ‘Building Schools for Burma’
project will be!
The
last time we visited the town, we had some plans drawn up for a
proposed two storey reinforced concrete structure. On the existing
site there is already a very basic school that holds about 200 children.
However, there are another couple of hundred children in the local
area that there is simply not any room for. By building a new school
annexed to the local monastery, we hope to have facilities to educate
approximately 400 children and also to benefit the entire community
by using the facilities as a ‘community centre’. The
structure, although basic will be solid, have a tin roof and be
'cyclone proof'. You can take a look at the plans below.
